Wilf was involved in some of the funniest, most joyous moments during the most popular period of the modern series.
His reaction on seeing Donna flying away in the TARDIS is wonderfully priceless; the way he threatened the incoming "green swine" Dalek invasion with a cricket bat, and fired a splodge of paint at a Dalek is brilliantly British; the awestruck look on his face when he sees Earth from above on the Hesperus, then revelling in firing that ship's asteroid lasers, is simply Bernard Cribbins loving every minute of it as himself.
But what really stood out were his emotionally powerful scenes with David Tennant's Doctor. Tissues at the ready: their tearful farewell after the Doctor wiped Donna's mind; when the Doctor bares his soul first in the cafe and then on the Hesperus; and as for the four knocks denouement, don't, just don't...
