Why does it need to happen? Who's idea was the 'snog box?' Rose and Tennant's love story thing was sickening. Martha spent too much time being jealous of a woman she'd never met. Amy kissed her son-in-law that doubled as her imaginary friend. Clara is just confusing. More to the point, Smith is confused. Tennant knew exactly what was up with Rose. When River told Smith who he really was, he acted like a kindergartner who was just told he should kiss the girl he likes on the cheek. It was awful! But that's ok. Capaldi is an older gentleman, and if Clara sticks around, then there will be no weird alien-human love story between the two (hopefully). If she doesn't stick around, then there will be no more Clara, which is almost as good.
