Doctor Who: 5 Most Interesting Time Lords Other Than the Doctor

Time_Lords

For all the hype made of the Doctor's own race, the Time Lords, when we actually see them, hushed voices now, they can be a bit dull. The Doctor may speak of an almighty race with the power to oversee the whole of history but in reality, they're just a bunch of bureaucrats sitting around not doing much at all. That is the reason the Doctor left his home planet in the first place, of course. Nevertheless, the Time Lords have produced many a rogue, rapscallion or rascal who shunned the Gallfreyan way of life of which the Doctor is just one. There€™s President Borusa who sought immortality to rule Gallifrey everlasting, Susan, the Doctor€™s own granddaughter who run away with him and Morbius, one of the nastiest Time Lords ever whose brain was transferred, Frankenstein-like, into a marauding monster! However, great characters from Doctor Who€™s history as these are, they€™re not quite as interesting as the five in this article.

5. The Rani

An old school friend of the Doctor€™s and the Master€™s, the Rani clashed with both the Sixth and Seventh Doctors for her callous experiments on, what she saw as, €˜lower forms of life€™, such as human beings. Whereas the Master does evil simply for the sake of it, the Rani has a scientific curiosity behind her amoral behaviour. It could be argued she€™s even more successful than the Master, having been known to rule over at least two whole planets. Now, maybe if the Master wasn't so fascinated with Earth...

The Rani appeared a third time in Dimensions in Time, a Children in Need special from 1993 that€™s not generally considered part of the show€™s canon. In this two-parter, the Rani sought revenge on the Doctor by trapping all his regenerations in € the TV soap Eastenders. If this intrigues you, please please don€™t look it up. There€™s a reason it€™s not canon.
