Doctor Who: 7 Most Memorable Moments Of Wilfred Mott
5. Wilf Realises Where His Italian Friends Are Being Taken (Turn Left)
After London is destroyed by the crash of the Starship Titanic in the Doctor-less alternate reality of Turn Left, the Noble family become refugees, and are relocated to Leeds. Wilf and Donna soon befriend Rocco Colasanto, the kindly patriarch of one of the families with whom they have been assigned to share a house. Rocco's positive attitude lifts the spirits of everyone around him.
However, sometime later, Rocco, his family, and anyone not of English descent are evicted as part of a new law reserving England for only the English, and are packed up into a truck to be taken to labour camps. Donna does not understand the full horror of what is happening until a heartbroken Wilf, having experienced World War II, points it out to her:
"Labour camps.. that's what they called them last time. It's happening again."
Horrified, Donna chases the truck down demanding to know where the families are going, but her pleas are ignored. The haunting moment is sold by the performances of Bernard Cribbins and Catherine Tate.
