Doctor Who: 7 Most Memorable Moments Of Wilfred Mott

1. Wilf Knocks Four Times (The End Of Time)

As the Tenth Doctor's time drew to a close, he received repeated warnings about an event that would spell the end for his current incarnation:

"He will knock four times."

Both The Doctor, and we as the audience, were initially led to believe that the He in question was The Master. Once The Doctor emerges from the evil plots of both The Master and Rassilon unscathed, he briefly believes that he has cheated death. Then, in one of the Doctor Who revival's most memorable twists, Wilf, who has been accidentally trapped in a booth about to be flooded with deadly radiation, knocks to be let out.

After a brief breakdown over his impending death, The Doctor saves Wilf, absorbing the radiation himself. Wilf, realising that his salvation means The Doctor's death, is heartbroken. The Doctor declares it was his honour to save Wilf's life. Wilfred Mott is indirectly responsible for the death of one of the most popular Doctors of all time, yet this hasn't affected fan sentiment towards the character. Wilf remains loved, due to the great work of Bernard Crimmins.

Rest in peace, Bernard.
