Doctor Who: 7 Reasons Why The Twelfth Doctor Actually Sucks

4. He Doesn't Like People

A consistent characteristic of the Doctor is that he cares. He may take the difficult decision of sacrificing one person to save many if he has to, but he would never make a joke about that person just right after he dies. The Twelfth Doctor is just hard to like because the writing is so on the nose regarding how little he gives a damn, so much so that sometimes it feels like they're just trying to be controversial rather than developing the character in line with the narrative. Didn't he used to be that guy who declared that every person is important? Isn't the whole point of the Time War that it made him value every person and will do anything to save anyone if he can? So why is he now the kind of guy who doesn't want to be near people and even forget their faces and names the moment he leaves the room? Why even devote his life to saving people if he doesn't want anything to do with them!? Sure, it's eventually revealed that he actually does care about them, and that his lack of sympathy was just a facade to make himself strong after so many deaths. That explains some of the scenes all throughout Series 8, but not all of them, but let's say it does. But why do the audience need to relearn that the Doctor is actually a nice guy underneath? Fans have known that for 50 years, already.
