Doctor Who: 7 Things You Need To Know About The Doctor's Meditation Prequel
2. The Doctor Did Something Wrong
Another caption says "Day 21" and the scene changes to the interior of the castle. The Doctor and Bors enter the room, Bor saying, "Are you sure?"
"I've been avoiding it. One last night, then I have to go." The Doctor seems resigned but unhappy with the situation.
"You wish to be alone?" asks Bors. "I have to prepare myself," says the Doctor.
"But why? You've never explained," insists Bors, echoing the audiences' own sentiments. Yes, Moffat, explain things once in a while! And, shockingly, the Doctor actually does say something important next.
"I did something wrong. I let somebody down. When I should have been brave enough and strong enough to do better." He's rearranging candlesticks all through this revelation, the better to meditate. "Tomorrow I pay the price. Tonight, I make myself ready." He kneels.
Bors approaches. "Goodbye, magician. You have widened my mind."
The Doctor stands and places his hand on Bors' shoulder. "You do realise, you're still an idiot."
"Yeah," says Bors. "Good. I have to be quiet now. Quiet as the grave." Again, this dialogue is hinting at the Doctor's probable impending death, as did the Prologue on Karn.
"I do not believe you are capable of silence," retorts Bors quietly. The Doctor is far from pleased. "Oh! Well, we'll see about that, shall we?"
"We shall, Sir Doctor," responds Bors, leaving. The Doctor starts scrawling chalk marks on the floor, muttering things like, "No more distractions." Suddenly, he screams, "BORS!"
