Doctor Who: 7 Wishes For Season 8

6. A Well-Defined Clara

Clara€™s character is basically a mess at this point. She€™s been all over the place, literally and figuratively. At first I thought this might be a deliberate choice on Steven Moffat€™s part but it now appears to be more likely that writers weren€™t given clear guidance as to what this character was really all about. To her credit, Jenna Louise Coleman has done everything asked of her €“ convincingly portraying Clara in about fifty different ways but unfortunately the indecisiveness is making it very hard to connect with and care about the character. Clara feels under-developed; as if she hasn€™t quite stepped out of the clay from which she was molded. She does things but we don€™t understand why she€™s doing them. That€™s a shame because Coleman is brilliant and deserves the opportunity to shine. Right now she€™s the most important piece of cardboard in the Doctor€™s life. I hope series 8 turns her into a person.
