Doctor Who: 8 Best Jodie Whittaker Episodes

5. Eve Of The Daleks (2022)

Doctor Who Jodie Whittaker Thirteenth Doctor
BBC Studios

The first two Dalek specials of Whittaker's tenure (Resolution and Revolution of the Daleks) lacked substance, falling victim to either weak supporting characters or an overly-broad scope. Eve of the Daleks, on the other hand, was filmed during COVID-19, transforming the episode into a more minimalistic spectacle. Unexpectedly, this was a pleasant advantage.

The premise, which focuses on a time loop in a storage facility containing killer robots, proved simple but effective. In order to defeat a few rogue Daleks, the Doctor, Yaz, and Dan are forced to go back in time repeatedly after being shot dead. In conjunction with its compelling narrative, the episode was further enhanced by two standout supporting characters played by Aisling Bea as Sarah, and Adjani Salmon as Nick.

Another highlight of the episode was the confirmation of Yaz's crush on the Doctor, which had been a topic of fan discussion and speculation. Whovians were pleased to see this addressed in its entirety, as there were fears of potential queer-baiting.

Overall, this Groundhog Day-like episode is, without a doubt, the best of Whittaker's New Year specials.
