Doctor Who: 8 Classic Monsters That Should Return In Series 9

7. The Menoptera

First appearing in the first Doctor serial The Web Planet, the Menoptera appear alongside similarly insectoid creatures the Zarbi. While the Menoptera were initially depicted as peace-loving creatures, it's entirely plausible to imagine a new take on the bug-like creatures. On screen they were shown to be at war with the Zarbi and thus, it's likely that they could become very hostile and spooky if provoked (perhaps by a human expedition to the planet of Vortis?) and so they could be reinvented as misunderstood with terrifying tendencies for aggression and rage. If given a more horror-inspired appearance to match for 21st century tastes, the Menoptera (and perhaps the Zarbi, too) could make for incredibly memorable and haunting enemies. While it's difficult to imagine, an updated take on this long-forgotten enemy could really drum up some excitement and make for a wonderful on screen adventure with the Twelfth Doctor.

Christie D. Inman-Hall hasn't written a bio just yet, but if they had... it would appear here.
