Doctor Who: 8 Classic Monsters That Should Return In Series 9

6. Azal & The Dæmons

Heavily influenced by the look of medieval gargoyles and imagery of the Devil, the appearance of Azal clearly taps into the creepy, Gothic style which is so prevalent in the horror genre. This style is further rammed home by the fact that Azal animates a gargoyle named Bok to use for his evil purposes. This stylistic decision, accompanied by the nuances in the source material, make for a truly memorable and scary story in which Azal, the last living Dæmon, is re-awoken by the Master. While Azal and the Dæmons appear to be mythical and biblical to their gargoyle like appearance, it turns out that that Azal is actually an alien from the planet Dæmos who had put himself into a state of suspended animation. The power of Azal is fearsome and was such that the Master desired to have it given to him. It's entirely possible that Azal's supposed self-destruct was actually a teleport and he is alive and well somewhere waiting to return and confront the twelfth incarnation of the Doctor. Let's face it, stranger things have happened!
