6. The Mother Of All Twists

Missy's countless cameos that were strategically dotted throughout Series 8 gave us practically nothing to work with but that still didn't stop the fans speculating. In fact, the tidal wave of theories that inundated the web in the build up to her big reveal were probably even more outlandish because fans had absolutely no idea who she was, but one of the most popular suggestions that dominated the discussions was, of course, the Master. And for that reason alone, it made for the mother of all twists. A lot of fans had already guessed her true identity but it still managed to shock them to their core when it actually turned out to be true. Perhaps nobody had dared to accept that it was something Steven Moffat would ever do which just goes to show that you should never underestimate the capabilities of the series' current head writer. It was the surprise that pretty much everyone had already sussed out but one that still managed to rip an almighty hole in the stratosphere of the Doctor Who universe. As twists go, it wasn't half bad.
