Doctor Who: 8 Reasons It Will Be Better After Matt Smith

2. Peter Capaldi

Doctor Who Peter Capaldi We can debate how the next Doctor was chosen until the cows come home. That's a subject for a different time. The simple fact here and now though is: Peter Capaldi can act. Full Stop. While most people seem to be fixated on his foul mouthed turn on The Thick of It, I think we really need to be keying in on his performance as John Frobisher in Torchwood: Children of Earth. If you haven't seen it I highly recommend a viewing in the very near future. His haunting portrayal of a middle management civil service officer stuck in an impossibly horrible scenario is one of my favorite roles on any film or TV show. His performance brought amazing weight to a show known for campyness. This is doubly important if the series does indeed take a darker turn as I posited earlier. Mr. Capaldi should prove quite adept at exploring the more disturbing aspects of the Doctor's character. I am so confident in the future for Mr. Capaldi that this would have been my #1 reason if it weren't for the fact........
