Doctor Who: 8 Unanswered Questions From The Thirteenth Doctor's Era
5. Why Wasn't The Timeless Child Plot Resolved?
Completely rewriting the history of a show that debuted in the 1960s was never going to be a good idea. But, alas, Chibnall tried. Whittaker's second series kicked off with the Master's line in Spyfall, "Everything you think you know is a lie." This sparked a lot of debate among fans, but the outcome of The Timeless Children was not met with too many smiles.
The discovery that the Doctor had had many more incarnations than we realized gave Thirteen's tenure much less value. A long-running series like Doctor Who must focus on new plot-lines that flow into the show's future, rather than retconning the past. It's just sloppy writing that detracts from Doctor Who's signature characteristic of re-birthing itself to provide viewers with new stories. The Timeless Child is a plot twist for the sake of a plot twist.
And even worse, now that Chibnall's era is over, the Timeless Child plot remains unresolved. We were given an enormous reveal, but it had no bearing on anything following Series 12's finale.
Like, what was the point? Guess we'll never know.
