Doctor Who: 9 Major Questions From The Series 9 Trailer

9. What Is Missy Up To?

Missy. The Mistress. The Master. The big reveal at the end of series 9 that the mysterious Missy was actually The Doctor€™s old foe wasn€™t all that shocking by the time it happened - many online commenters had long since predicted it - but that didn€™t make it any less brilliant. At last The Master had returned, and Michelle Gomez was delightfully insane in the role.

While it appeared she was killed at the end, thankfully that wasn€™t the case and Gomez has been confirmed to return, and appears in a couple of scenes in the trailer: one features her looking into a mirror, the other standing side-by-side with Clara. What exactly is she up to?

The relationship between the two Time-Lords is a complex one; they're both arch-enemies and also best friends, the only surviving members of their race. She€™s confirmed to be in at least the first two episodes of series 9, but what exactly will she be up to?

She doesn€™t look quite so crazed here, and standing next to Clara there doesn€™t appear to be any obvious enmity, so could she be working with her and The Doctor against a different foe? The show may well be diving deeper into the connection between the pair, fleshing out her character some more, so she could be less obviously villainous, but then again given the nature of the character it€™s just as likely she€™d be behind the whole thing.
