Doctor Who: 9 Most Overrated Episodes Of The Revived Series

9. Doomsday

Why it's beloved? Cybermen vs. Daleks. Who doesn't want to see that? "Rose Tyler, I...." Why it's overrated? Credit where credit's due. Rose being split up from the Doctor is very sad. It's bordering on melodrama, but it still works out fine. It is another aspect of the episode that fails. Unfortunately, it is a big part on why the episode is popular. A Cyberman and Dalek match up might sound temptingly good on paper but when it's finally shown in full glory on screen, it fell short to the imagination. Fans should have seen coming that one Dalek can take on even a thousand Cybermen without even moving, so saying it is "mismatched" is an understatement. Since both creatures have slow mobility, it is all the more boring. All they do is stand or walk real slow and shoot lasers, until eventually, but very slowly, a dozen Cybermen fall. Not even a reaction, just a hunk of metal falling. Filming Cybermen and Dalek action figures fighting might even be more exciting - at least it has an excuse. It is only the Cybermen's second appearance in the revived series and already they have become none threatening jokes. Maybe that's why Steven Moffat has been adding too many "power-ups" on them lately. Well done, Doomsday. Well done. Also, how convenient is it that the Doctor made up some science mambo-jumbo that got rid of all the millions of Cybermen and Daleks in one go? The revived series has always been known for its cop out endings but Doomsday was the first to use it on such a huge scale.
