Doctor Who: 9 Reasons Peter Capaldi Could Be The Best Doctor Ever

8. Timing

The Twelfth Doctor came to be in the aftermath of one of both the greatest and most devastating moments in the Doctor€™s history. He had just discovered and forgotten - for the third time, no less - that not only was he not responsible for the genocide of his species, but that his home planet was still out there somewhere. As stories go, this could be one hell of an arc, and if executed correctly, it might well become one of the greatest redemption tales of all time. Let€™s also not forget that hot off a 50th anniversary year, the show is also going into the tenth year of its revived series. Ten whole years! Whilst that may well not be celebrated with the same verve and vigour as the 50th, only a fool would assume that fans won't see something big. Much in the same way that Matt Smith, David Tennant and John Hurt were present for a historic story (although in truth, it was only historic in terms of the revived series), Peter Capaldi is likely to be at the centre of his own celebration, and likely without having to share the spotlight. Finally, the show is at a point in its own timeline where lots of things may - or may not - be changing all at once. Viewers could well see the end of Clara who, unlike the majority of previous companions, has been shown to be written into every aspect of the Doctor€™s history. Rumours continue to circle that this could also be the end of Steven Moffat€™s four year run as showrunner, and, whilst many would applaud this change, the majority don€™t feel the same. Companions change all the time, but the change of a lead writer, executive producer and, perhaps, the entire creative direction of the show, could well mean a definitive turning point in the Doctor€™s future.
