Doctor Who: 9 Things That Must Happen In Series 9

8. A Decade Of Nu-Who

It only feels like yesterday that Christopher Eccleston burst onto our screens as the Ninth Doctor but time really does fly in the TARDIS - next year will mark 10 whole years since the show's revival. As such, it would be nice to see its anniversary celebrated in Series 9 somehow. It's not 50 years so a feature-length extravaganza starring multiple Doctors would probably be somewhat unnecessary (though is that ever unnecessary!?), but some sort of allusion to the past decade would be an appreciated touch for the new generation of fans who have been following the Time Lord's adventures since 2005. In the grand scheme of things, the new series turning 10 years old is no biggie when the franchise itself has now been running for 51, but it would be a wasted opportunity if the show didn't reference its modern success on screen, especially as its ratings have pretty much stayed constant since 2005, which is no mean feat in today's televisual market. If they're going to go all out, though, they could always bring back a companion or two from the past decade. With Rose Tyler off on a parallel world and Donna Noble unable to ever be reunited with the Doctor (Catherine Tate has said just this week she's doubtful she'll ever be asked to return), it looks like Martha Jones, Mickey Smith and Captain Jack Harkness would be the most likely candidates, especially because Amy Pond and Rory Williams are, well... dead. The last time we saw Martha and Mickey in The End of Time, they were newlyweds working as freelance Earth defenders, so there's no reason why they couldn't cross paths with the Twelfth Doctor in Series 9. As for Jack, he hasn't been seen since Torchwood's fourth series, Miracle Day, in 2011, but John Barrowman has admitted that he'd return to Doctor Who "at the drop of a hat". So Steven, the ball is in your court... Tumblr M7kwpe30iw1rqjm8l Gif
