If there is one thing you can depend on with Doctor Who, it's that each new series will bring with it its own multitude of timey-wimey twists and turns, especially while Steven Moffat is still around. Over the last few years his game-changing cliffhangers have involved killing the Doctor, introducing incarnations we never even knew about and revealing that a murderous, imprisoned psychopath is the time-travelling offspring of two of the Time Lord's companions. If, after the latest series, you're starting to worry that he's running out of ideas, fear not, because the showrunner has revealed that he has already concocted the catastrophic cliffhanger which will play out in the penultimate episode of next year's series... "Its a whopper," he told Doctor Who Magazine earlier this year. "Oh, I dont think youll see this one coming! Of course, there's probably no point even trying to decipher what lies ahead for the Doctor in Series 9 (which pretty much makes this entire feature irrelevant, actually). From previous experience, though, fans know all too well that the deepest, darkest sectors of Steven Moffat's brain can be as unpredictable as a dinner date with a Dalek and, in a show that isn't defined by genre or narrative, it's no exaggeration to say that quite literally anything can - and will - happen.
