Doctor Who: 9 Things That Must Happen In Series 9

2. A New Companion

If the recent rumours are to be believed, the Doctor Who dynamics will be getting yet another shake up in Series 9 with the introduction of a brand new companion for the Twelfth Doctor. Regrettably, though, this would mean that Jenna Coleman's TARDIS days are numbered, tying in with the fevered speculation that next month's Christmas Special, Last Christmas, will be her final outing with the Doctor. The clue is in the title, apparently. This does, of course, raise the important question of just how the impossible girl will bid her final adieu to the Time Lord. Following the heartbreaking events of the Series 8 finale, she could be forgiven for opting to leave the wonders of time and space in favour of having a "normal life", however recent comments from Jenna Coleman have seemingly contradicted that theory:
€œI think she€™s addicted to him and the life and the TARDIS," the actress said. "I don€™t think there€™s really a way back for her now. She€™s had a taste of this life and of him.€
So, if she's not going to leave the Doctor by choice, that only really leaves one other option... right? Whatever her ultimate fate has in store for her, fans will just have to hold tight and cross that bridge if/when they get to it. In the meantime, if a position in the TARDIS is about to become vacant, what sort of person should fill the coveted role? Many fans have called for a character from the past to break the trend of present day companions, while others would like to see the Twelfth Doctor team up with a male instead. Another popular suggestion is Missy, who's return in Series 9 has already been confirmed. The Doctor AND Missy in the TARDIS? Time and space has finally met its match.
