Doctor Who: All Chris Chibnall Episodes Ranked From Worst To Best

2. Ascension Of The Cybermen

While I may live to eat my words, this has been by far the best episode of the Chibnall/Whittaker era, and a sign the show may be back on track. The quality of this episode does however, at the time of writing, hinge on the series 12 finale. Where, touch wood, we will receive a finale worthy of this excellent build-up episode.

There is so much at play here, with a strange tale of a man from what appears to be Ireland, The Doctor and her 'fam' forced to split up, and the Lone Cyberman wreaking havoc wherever he travels. Then there's the insane multi-layered cliffhanger, with enough shocks and twists for a whole season.

If Chibnall is able to pull off the finale we'll only know in time, but this episode has a sense of dread and character development we haven't seen before in his time as head honcho. The episode also sees the best performance yet from Jodie Whittaker, who knocks it out of the park here with raw emotion and genuine humour.

With all the suave and sophistication of any Aussie half way through a slab, Luke will critique every minute detail of films and shows from all eras- unless it's 1990's Simpsons episodes, because they're just perfect
