4. Karen Gillan
The Role: As important to the Eleventh Doctor as Rose was to Nine and Ten, Karen Gillan played Amy Pond, the flame-haired best friend of the Time Lord and fiancee/wife of Rory. With three and a half series in the role, Karen was the longest-running modern series companion until Jenna Coleman announced she was staying for Series Nine.
Where Is She Now? Arguably even more so than other companions, Karen's career has really ballooned thanks to Doctor Who. She's appeared in the horror film Oculus, romcom Not Another Happy Ending and the (unfortunately for her) cancelled sitcom Selfie. Most famously, she shaved her head to play Nebula in Guardians Of The Galaxy - a role which she will return to for the upcoming sequel. This year she also made her directorial and screenwriting debut for the short film Coward.
She can next be seen in western In A Valley Of Violence, Salem witch drama The Devil You Know and thriller The Circle, alongside Emma Watson and Tom Hanks.
