Doctor Who: Every 11th Doctor Episode Ranked Worse To Best
20. The Power Of Three
The Power of Three may not belong so high up on the list of best 11th Doctor episodes but it’s the unusual fashion of the alien invasion which is most interesting. Instead of the typical template of ‘the alien invade guns-a-blazing in their spaceships’, we witness a random arrival of mysterious cubes across the planet.
As months go by the human race drops its guard and embrace the cubes as a novelty item, something which feels completely like it would happen in reality. However, the idea of the Doctor spending this time on Earth with the Ponds to monitor them does feel like it was stolen from The Lodger as he experiences the mundane nature of human life.
What makes this story work is that, being the penultimate Pond episode, it allows us to properly witness the interactions between the trio who have been at the heart of the show since the birth of the 11th Doctor. While far from the best episode, look at the rushed third act alone, this episode reminds us how blessed we were to see Matt Smith, Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill run around our screen for the previous two years.
