Doctor Who: Every 11th Doctor Episode Ranked Worse To Best

8. The Time Of The Angels/Flesh And Stone

Doctor Who Matt Smith
BBC

Bringing back one of the scariest monsters in recent Doctor Who history during Moffat’s tenure seemed inevitable considering he created them. It was still a massive risk though which could have undone the sterling work of establishing them as the stuff of nightmares previously. Wisely Moffat decided to make this two-parter an epic and almost blockbuster-like adventure compared to the quieter and more nuanced Blink.

What we get is an adrenaline-fuelled 90-minute epic journey through a deserted spaceship full of Angels. The guest cast led by a returning River Song and Game of Thrones’ Iain Glen is brilliant. But the man who steals the show is Matt Smith, an incredible feat considering these were the first episodes he filmed as the Doctor.

However, the moment we see the Weeping Angels begin to move in Flesh and Stone has divided fans but is undeniably a bold move on Moffat’s behalf. While seeing them move is interesting, it now explicitly shows the audience what they look like when no one is looking and how quickly they move which was always part of the mystery with Blink. Another negative in an otherwise brilliant story is the last five minutes of Flesh and Stone as Amy randomly tries to seduce the Doctor after this traumatic experience.
