Doctor Who: Every 11th Doctor Episode Ranked Worse To Best

6. The Angels Take Manhattan

Doctor Who Matt Smith
BBC Studios

While The God Complex would have been a satisfying end to the Ponds time with the Doctor, The Angels Take Manhattan will leave you an emotional mess. While the third major appearance of the Weeping Angels is definitely their weakest, this episode is more about the human relationships than the stone baddies.

The idea of the Statue of Liberty being a big Weeping Angel is clever but also massively impractical when you break it down. Did the whole of New York look away from the massive landmark for one second? However, the Angels are only in this episode to horrifically trap the Ponds in the past for eternity.

The graveside scene where Amy decides to join her husband and succumb to the Angels’ touch is heartbreaking, a master class in acting from Gillan and Smith. While it may not quite surpass ‘Doomsday’ in tears shed, it certainly is a fitting farewell to two beloved companions.
