Doctor Who: Every Companion Ranked Worst To Best
9. Donna Noble
Starting out as an incredibly reluctant companion, Donna Noble was at the alter and ready to marry her husband when she was beamed up to the TARDIS, much to the surprise of a still-grieving Tenth Doctor. After realising that her being on the TARDIS was the result of a scheme involving Torchwood, her husband and a pregnant alien spider, the Doctor dropped her off to her parents, and all ended well. For roughly a year.
Finding the Doctor again whilst investigating conspiracy theories, she did not turn down the invite to become a companion a second time. Several Adipose, volcano-monsters, Ood, Sontarans and a giant wasp later, the Doctor and Donna resembled a comedy duo whenever they travelled to a new location, and the two became inseparable, even when older companions returned to the TARDIS for a few victory laps.
The dialogue between the Doctor and Donna was more in line with a Chuckle Brothers routine than anything else that had been seen in the show. Not afraid to argue, not afraid to be sarcastic and always willing to show up the Doctor, the question of who brought who alone for the ride was asked often. Simply put, Donna IS Catherine Tate, displaying much of the same qualities and humour that she exhibited in her own shown and stand-up routines.
To this day, Donna's exit from the show is a tragedy. Not only was she forced to leave the TARDIS against her will, but the Doctor also had to erase her memory in order to save her life, never being able to remember the adventures she had with the Doctor. Not satisfied with our suffering as fans, the writers decided to reopen a fresh wound when Donna reappeared in David Tennant's final outing as the Doctor.
The Runaway Bride, Doctor-Donna, or just plain Donna Noble. This was a companion who made a mark with her time on the show.
