Doctor Who: EVERY NuWho Villain And Monster Ranked Worst To Best

17. Toclafane

Doctor Who villains
BBC Studios

Appear in: The Sound of Drums/Last of the Time Lords.

Orbs have a happy habit of causing a helluva lot of trouble. There's the orb in Guardians of the Galaxy which housed the Power Stone; the Palantír from The Lord of the Rings; and here we have the terror of the Toclafane.

The Master has quite the awesome invasion force ready to conquer the universe and create a new Time Lord Empire - with six, count 'em SIX, billion slicing, dicing, and laser shooting spheres. The shot of Martha standing on Hampstead Heath and seeing wave upon wave of Toclafane descending destructively onto London is one of the most visually arresting scenes ever in Doctor Who.

This is to be expected when anyone's in league with the Master. But the real kicker to the Toclafane is that they're us (assuming dear reader that you are human) in creepy cannibalised form from the year 100 trillion, who had "fun" murdering their ancestors during The Year That Never Was.

Take your end of the universe pick: Futurekind or Toclafane? At least you can whizz about and teleport as the latter.

The name's Colbourn, James - yeah, doesn't quite have the same ring to it.
