12. Upgraded Sea Devils, And The Return Of Karvanista! (Sort Of)
The trailer kicks off with an image we've seen before, but it's worth repeating just how stunning this Sea Devils redesign is. It's faithful to the old look yet it's clearly a massive upgrade, and it's tough to imagine them looking any better than this.
One of the strengths of the Chibnall era has been the way he's handled classic villains, from the Daleks, to the Cybermen (more specifically, Ashad), to the Weeping Angels. At face value, the Sea Devils look to be continuing that winning streak.
Costume designer Ray Holman recently discussed the Sea Devils' upgraded look in an issue of SFX magazine, mentioning that they actually wear armour, and that their costumes contain strands of real fishing net, reinforcing their oceanic aesthetic.
Oh, and the leader of the Sea Devils, pictured above? He's played by Karvanista actor Craige Els, bagging his third Doctor Who role in little over a year (he also played Dan's mate in John Bishop's introduction video).
Karvanista was one of the best things about Flux, so if Els brings his A-game in Legend of the Sea Devils, we could have another scene-stealing character on our hands.
