Doctor Who: Once, Upon Time Review - 5 Ups & 6 Downs

10. UP - Inside The Doctor’s Head

Doctor Who Flux
BBC

The episode starts with something we really don’t see often enough: a glimpse into The Doctor’s thought process.

We’re taken straight back to last week’s cliffhanger, which saw Swarm about to subject Yaz and Vinder to the full force of unadulterated time. The Doctor walks us through what she’s thinking - every consideration that is running through her mind every time she’s in danger, and how she formulates a plan, before springing into action.

This sort of fourth-wall breaking narration was very characteristic of the Capaldi era, and it always served to deepen his character, providing a rare level of insight into the head of our mysterious protagonist. More of this please!

We’re also pleased to report that this was a much better cliffhanger resolution than the previous botch-job, though they do take their time to explain it fully…
