Doctor Who: Ranking All The Series 9 Cliff-Hangers
6. Ashildr's Destiny: The Girl Who Died
The cliff-hanger The Doctor resurrects Ashildr using the Mire tablet, turning the innocent Viking girl into an immortal hybrid. As the episode ends, we see the passing of time and the prophetic fires which suggest it will not end well... Does it work? While Ashildr would be back - and in the next episode no less - The Girl Who Died probably didn't need a 'To be Continued...' as the end of the story. Because the follow-up tale, The Woman Who Lived' is not technically part two but a connected story featuring the same character, the ending is more an intriguing Oooo moment that a full on gasp-worthy cliff-hanger. I suspect had The Woman Who Lived been placed later in the series (perhaps after The Zygon Inversion) there might not have been a 'To be Continued...' at all. Overall Rating 6/10. An intriguing set-up for Ashildr's future but not really an actual cliff-hanger.
