Doctor Who: Ranking Every Spin-Off From Worst To Best

9. Counter-Measures

Doctor Who Scream Of The Shalka
Big Finish

Remember Group Captain Gilmore and his scientist allies Rachel and Allison from 1987's Remembrance of the Daleks? No? Oh, well they have their own spin-off series too.

Jokes about the relative obscurity of its central characters aside, Counter-Measures is actually really good. A fun sci-fi thriller series, it is heavily inspired by the spy TV series of the 1960s - most notably The Avengers - and effectively captures the mood of the time. It also occupies an important place in Doctor Who continuity, as Gilmore's Counter-Measures team is the clear forerunner to military alien-busting organisation UNIT.

After four series, Counter-Measures was rebooted as The New Counter-Measures. Featuring the same characters, the action was moved along to the 1970s - in a homage to The Avengers' follow-up The New Avengers.
