Doctor Who: Ranking Every Spin-Off From Worst To Best
8. Sarah Jane Smith
During Doctor Who's so-called Wilderness Years when it wasn't on air, Big Finish stepped in to deliver what K-9 and Company failed to do and give Elisabeth Sladen her own spin-off show.
With the tin dog nowhere to be seen, it followed a similar premise to the 1981 pilot in that it saw Ms Smith facing mysteries that were a bit more down to earth than Doctor Who's usual wheelhouse. This time around the stories were actually good, though, and the series is definitely worth a listen for fans of the character.
After two series of eight episodes from 2002 to 2006, the Sarah Jane audio series was cancelled after the character was given her own TV spin-off, the Sarah Jane Adventures (more on that later).
