Doctor Who Regenerations: Ranked From Worst To Best

3. The Eleventh Doctor To The Twelfth Doctor

Perhaps one of the most shocking regenerations to have graced our screens, the Eleventh Doctor went out in a suitably epic style. Having been gifted a new regeneration cycle by the Time Lords, the severely aged Eleventh Doctor takes down the enemies of Christmas and makes his way back to the TARDIS. When Clara finds him again, fans see the Doctor is back to his youthful good looks thanks to his body 'resetting' prior to the regeneration. The fact that the Eleventh Doctor died of old age is beautiful, poetic, and generally fitting of Matt Smith's tenure aboard the TARDIS. His run started as a fairytale and it certainly ended as one, too. Perhaps even more poignant is the speech delivered by the Eleventh Doctor prior to the transition. This regeneration succeeds in being sentimental without being too cloying which is where some fans believe David Tennant and Russell T Davies fell down. The transition itself is a wonderfully jarring snap change which suddenly, and shockingly, introduced audiences to the quintessentially different Peter Capaldi. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4F84WapAH7M
