Doctor Who Regenerations: Ranked From Worst To Best

2. The Ninth Doctor To The Tenth Doctor

The regeneration which introduced the concept to a whole new generation of fans, the Ninth Doctor breathed his last in the finale of the first series of NuWho. Both witty and moving, the Ninth Doctor's final moments gave audiences a real insight into how confusing the process can be for companions and just how alienated one might feel if your best friend suddenly changed everything about them before your very eyes. Eccleston, Piper and Tennant all provide stellar performances during this scene which makes for one of the most impressive regeneration scenes in the show's history. Eccleston's last moments in the show give him some truly memorable lines and gave young fans a very bittersweet experience in losing their first Doctor, but gaining a whole new one that would go on to become a firm fan favourite. This scene also introduced the style of regeneration which would be used pretty consistently since. The explosive light effects make for a more dramatic image than previous incarnations had experienced and finally lent the process a real dramatic punch, making it a much more visceral and violent act. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qa3NM9Jhkn0
