Steven Moffats Death in Heaven is laced with grief, loss and a tiny bit of hope. Its a dark journey where the dead are not safe from manipulation and redemption while earned is bittersweet. The convoluted storyline dragged at times yet there were moments of brilliance. Missy is a monster with a smart mouth and her unique brand of lunacy was in turns creepy and hilarious. This is the story of Danny Pink and it is not a happy one. He is the central core around which the plot revolves though not a strong enough character to carry it off. His plight is treated with curious indifference in a script that acknowledges raw grief but relies too much on tricks and platitudes to touch our hearts. Death in Heaven is a victim of its own ambition. Despite that there are intriguing questions raised and a laudable willingness to explore the darker side of life and relationships.
