Doctor Who Review: Face The Raven – 8 Ways To Compound The Crime

3. The Injured Party

Does Clara have a death wish? She completely disregards the danger inherent in dangling from the TARDIS and takes on Rigsy€™s tattoo without much thought to what might go wrong. She keeps trying to be the hero but even when she achieves that it€™s not enough. It€™s like there€™s an emptiness inside of her that nothing can fill. Ultimately Clara makes a stupid mistake borne out of hubris but she accepts that and faces the consequences bravely and with care for what she€™s leaving behind, something the Doctor doesn€™t always do. Ashildr may be an agent of Clara€™s destruction but Clara had a part in the creation of this embittered immortal. She was the one to convince the Doctor to save Ashildr in the first place and the Doctor showed his love and his weakness when he gave in to her. No matter how she tried Clara was never going to be like the Doctor because she could not see the big picture in the way he can. She was too blinded by her narrow perceptions and her emotional immaturity to make the correct decision in this instance and she paid the price for her arrogance. She refused, however, to lose her compassion. Like the Doctor she never stopped caring.
