Doctor Who Review: Robot Of Sherwood - 9 Steps From Man To Myth

2. The Hero Within

A hero is a person who made a choice one day to give up serving their own objectives in service to the greater good. The Doctor denies he is a hero when Robin points out the stars in Clara€™s eyes. At times this Doctor is quite weary even bitter. He thinks his flaws outweigh his good deeds but one does not cancel out the other. It is possible for the Doctor to be both savior and soldier. Heroes fight even when it€™s the last thing they want to do, even if it means they themselves will suffer, even if it means they will be hated. Robin Hood is a reluctant hero. It is Marian€™s influence that sets him on the path to selflessness. Similarly even as the Doctor motivates his companions to become greater they in turn inspire him. Heroism is not a thing bestowed by the gods. The potential for selfless acts exists within all of us. We only need to call that part of ourselves into being.
