Doctor Who Review: The Girl Who Died – 7 Ways To Measure Matters Of Life And Death

6. Clara In Charge

It is a relief to see a Clara not driven to extremes of behavior for a change. This Clara is confident but not overly so and uses the lessons in manipulation she€™s learned from the Doctor to good effect. That her plan is ultimately thwarted by the naïve Ashildr is no fault of hers and she does not chastise the other young woman for it. When Clara encourages the Doctor to find his compassion and come up with a way to save the village she is doing her job as a companion. She is reminding the Doctor that these are people who deserve at least an attempt to help them even if he can€™t control the outcome. Clara€™s efforts to save Ashildr however may be doomed to backfire. While she does ultimately convince the Doctor to rescue the young woman the way in which he chooses to do so may have a lasting negative impact. The Doctor suspects this though he does it anyway and while he tried to explain to Clara that there are consequences she does not listen. The Doctor does not like what Clara has become and is aware that he is close to losing her one way or another.
