Doctor Who Review: The Girl Who Died – 7 Ways To Measure Matters Of Life And Death

1. The Gift And The Curse

There is no greater testament to Maisie Williams€™ acting skill than this episode€™s final scene. She stands still and silent as the world whirls around her. The only thing that changes is the expression on Ashildr€™s face. Her bright curiosity and youthful idealism morph through confusion and fear to end on a note of bitterness. The Doctor€™s job is to change the people he meets. He cannot control what that does to those people. Or rather if he tries to control it the universe will move to make corrections without consideration for individual suffering. This was such a quiet cliffhanger, like a whisper in your ear that leads to a nightmare. It was a masterful way of ending the episode for you can€™t help but wonder what will happen to this woman who so loved her place and time and people and will now watch all of it wither and die. When she meets the Doctor again will she shake his hand or spit in his face? Only time will tell.
