Greed is a selfish desire and a self-fulfilling prophecy. To feel greed for something is to know you will never have enough of that thing, you will never be sated. Davros and the Daleks seek destruction for its own sake but they can never be satisfied. Missy seeks the entirety of the Doctor’s attention but she will never get it.

Clara is very sure of herself in this episode and I wonder if that characterization is serving the story. I know there is a push to write strong female characters but I think we are better served with writing complicated and nuanced female characters. Clara is in danger of becoming one-note and that would be a shame as Jenna Coleman is brilliant in portraying her. I do have to wonder if Clara’s self assurance may ultimately lead to her downfall.

Colony Sarff is a literal snake or rather snakes. They are the embodiment of temptation and greed. In their selfish and needy desire to lord it over other beings they have enslaved themselves to Davros. The irony of their insistence that they are a democracy ignores the fact that they are in service to a tyrant.
