The Doctor’s life is defined by his friendships. He would be a very different man without his companions, perhaps even more like Davros. To allow people in, to become close, is to accept the inevitability of pain. Davros and his creations hide from pain behind walls of metal. They lash out because it extends their wall. Will Clara’s reckless behavior in service of her quest for the Doctor’s approval have tragic consequences?
