Doctor Who Review: The Magician's Apprentice – 7 Ways To Weigh The Wages Of Sin
1. Pride
Would you kill a child to save a universe? Is that question even an appropriate one? Why must there be only two possibilities? When you think you know best – when you think you have the answer – then your mind is closed to other avenues of exploration. Killing Davros may prevent the Daleks in their current form but another tyrant always arises to fill the void. The Doctor may have the power to play god but that doesn’t mean he should exercise it. That’s the reason he travels with companions. He needs someone to hold him back and point out his mistakes.
At the end of “Magician’s Apprentice” we’ve come full circle. Will the Doctor choose the possibility of change or the bitterness of the final solution? What if his self-righteousness leads to a universe in even greater peril? If the Doctor is judge, jury and executioner has he not become the Tyrant?
