Doctor Who Series 10: Everything You Need To Know

3. So Are The Ice Warriors

The Daleks aren’t the only returning alien race, as writer Mark Gatiss has confirmed that he is bringing back the sssspooky, sssscary, sssspeech-impedimented Ice Warriors for the ninth episode of Series 10.

A reptilian species with a militaristic society and a strong sense of honour, the Ice Warriors lived on Mars millions of years ago before spreading out into the universe. They appeared in a few classic Doctor Who serials, and one Eleventh Doctor story, 2013’s Cold War (the one in which a lone Ice Warrior took his clothes off on a submarine... yeah, I'd tried to forget that, too).

Gatiss has described his story as “a Jules Verne/Edgar Rice Burroughs story of derring-do” featuring “a new kind of Ice Warrior”. Filming for this episode, in alien-looking caves, has shown us it's set on the Ice Warrior’s home planet of Mars, and will see soldiers from the Boer War somehow pitted against the chilly villains. It sounds like the most Mark Gatiss-y thing that Mark Gatiss has ever written.
