4. The Daleks Are Back

Well, it wouldn’t be Doctor Who without them. We won’t have to wait long to see the infamous pepper pots in action, as the Daleks are set to appear in Episode 1 of the series.

They won’t be the main enemies of the episode, though. The story focuses mainly on the Doctor and Nardole investigating evil puddles at Bill’s university, but they end up whisking her away into the future at some point. Here, they encounter the Daleks in a reworked version of the mini-episode that accompanied Pearl Mackie’s casting announcement – a real trial by fire for the new companion, making the evil puddles seem rather damp by comparison.

Eagle-eyed fans have also spotted that clips from this scene in the series trailer also feature a Movellan being thrown into a wall. ‘Who?’, we hear anyone who isn’t a die-hard classic series know-it-all say. Well, the Movellans were an android race at war with the Daleks in 1979’s Tom Baker story Destiny of the Daleks, and it looks like the Doctor’s returning to that war. Moffat must have been pants-wettingly pleased with himself when he got that obscure throwback in.
