Doctor Who Series 11: 4 Ups & 3 Downs From 'It Takes You Away'

2. Graham IS Ryan's Granddad

Doctor Who It Takes You Away
BBC

An arc we saw coming a mile off after episode one, Ryan finally acknowledges Graham as his Granddad, something Graham has wanted from Ryan since he married Grace. It only took Ryan hearing about Graham seeing Grace again on the other side, which was a lovely moment, but it still could've been done better in my opinion.

Using the same building blocks of this episode to lead to this exchange, Ryan should've been put in Graham’s place on the other side, with Graham left with Hanne. Ryan would then see his Gran, which would be even more emotional since we’ve already seen Graham with his vision of Grace, and in this mirror-verse, Grace tells Ryan just how much he means to Graham, making him appreciate the effort Graham tries to make with him even more. All of this leads to the Granddad line, and I’d be a blubbering wreck on the floor.
