Doctor Who Series 12: 10 Huge Talking Points After The Timeless Children

1. What Will Happen Next?

The Master The Timeless Children

Doctor Who will return in Revolution of the Daleks. The one-off special will see Graham, Ryan and Yaz reunited with the Doctor. But what of the other humans who were taken from Gallifrey to Earth with them? Will they make an appearance and will Graham get his happy ending with Ravio? Perhaps some or all of them are set to replace Graham and Ryan in the TARDIS?

Whatever happens, it is good to hear that Mandip Gill will be back for series 13. It is time for Yaz to truly shine after being the least well-served of the three companions. The immediate question is, how will the Doctor get out of jail and what do the Daleks have to do with it?

According to Chibnall, the finale has set up a number of threads for the next series, but it isn’t clear what they will be. Will The Doctor go in search of her true origins and biological parents, or will she instead focus on the Division and the lives she led on Gallifrey?

And what of The Master? The easiest way out for him is the vortex manipulator. Yes, he is suicidal and wants to die, but he won’t do that without taking out the Doctor with him.

That difficult second album has been navigated well by Chris Chibnall and his team, but it still feels like a work in progress. Jodie Whittaker’s Doctor has had the occasional stand-out moment, and we have seen a greater depth and range in her performances, but there is something still missing. A lack of import or gravitas maybe, that wasn’t helped by a finale that kept her away from the action. We can only hope that Chibnall’s new vision for Doctor Who finally takes shape in series 13. Perhaps the ground-breaking is yet to come.
