5. ...And So Are The Sontarans

On the subject of returning villains, here's another huge one. Well, the villains themselves are quite small, but you get what we mean.

In November, pint-sized warriors the Sontarans were spotted running down the streets of Cardiff, chasing what seems to be an ordinary civilian past a set of houses.

The interesting thing about these Sontarans is that their design appears to be much more in line with the classic grey Sontaran look, as opposed to the blue look that they sported when they were introduced to the modern series in 2008.

Since then, the Sontarans have had a really odd time in Doctor Who, being used more as comedic relief (via Commander Strax) than as a proper villainous threat.

Strax was a really fun character, but lots of fans have been wanting the Sontarans to go back to their roots and become bad guys once again, and based on these set images, it looks like Chibnall is doing just that.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
