Doctor Who Series 13 Starts Filming: 10 Early Predictions For What We'll See

7. A Classic Monster - Reinvented

One of the highlights of the Chibnall era has been the way he's handled classic monsters like the Daleks and the Cybermen. These villains have been in Doctor Who since the 2005 revival, but previous showrunners Russell T Davies and Steven Moffat never really did anything special or unique with them. For the most part, the Daleks were just the Daleks... and the Cybermen were just the Cybermen.

Now, to be clear, we're not saying that's a bad thing. Davies and Moffat both had some brilliant Dalek and Cybermen stories in their time, like Bad Wolf/The Parting Of The Ways, and World Enough And Time/The Doctor Falls. Hell, even the Ironside Daleks in Series 5 were pretty fun to watch - "WOULD YOU CARE FOR SOME TEA?!"

All we're saying is that Chibnall is taking a radically different approach - and it's an approach that we like. He took the Daleks and the Cybermen and portrayed them in a way that we'd never seen in the show before, and because of this, we fully expect him to do the same with another classic monster in Series 13.

The only question is... who will it be? The Ice Warriors? The Sontarans? The Weeping Angels? The Ood? We can't be sure at this stage, but we're excited regardless.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
