Back to Love & Monsters now, for better or worse.

As well as an unfortunate comment about a paving slab, this episode is memorable for its monster, the Abzorbaloff, a creature that looked like it was designed by a child because, well... it was.

This big green abomination was played by comedian Peter Kay, who also appeared as his human alter-ego Victor Kennedy. Kay is one of the biggest stars in UK comedy history – his 2010-2011 tour sold a staggering 1.2 million tickets, a world record.

Kay’s career pre and post-Who is pretty similar – a combination of popular tours and hit TV shows. Since 2006, his biggest hit on telly has been Peter Kay’s Car Share, a sitcom about a pair of colleagues who drive to work together, and their various interactions. It won him two BAFTA awards in 2016.

Though his television appearances have become more infrequent in recent years, Kay remains a firm favourite of British comedy fans.

After some time away, he announced his return to stand-up comedy in 2022, and is currently in the middle of a tour that will stretch into 2025.
