Doctor Who Series 2 Cast: Where Are They Now?
2. Tracy-Ann Oberman
If you want to talk about some of the overlooked powerful characters in Doctor Who, how about Yvonne Hartman, who was so mentally strong that she resisted being converted into a Cyberman.
For Queen and country indeed.
The ill-fated head of Torchwood was played by Tracy-Ann Oberman, who was a mainstay of British TV comedy in the early 2000s in shows like Big Train. She continued to appear in funny roles after Doctor Who, most memorably as Auntie Val in the sitcom Friday Night Dinner, which is where most viewers today will likely know her from.
No entry on this list would be complete without some non-Doctor Who connection to Doctor Who, and sure enough, in 2021, Oberman was cast in Russell T Davies’ seminal AIDS drama It’s a Sin as Carol, main character Ritchie’s acting agent.
Seriously Russell, just make some new friends!
Funnily enough, Oberman will next be seen – or rather, heard – reprising Yvonne Hartman for the Big Finish audio boxset I Hate Mondays, which launches in May 2024.
